State Senator Darrell Steinberg State Capitol, Room 4035 Sacramento, CA 95814 RE: SB 375 – Transportation Planning/Transportation Capacity Dear State Senator Steinberg, I OPPOSE SB 375 which requires transportation agencies to add additional regulations regarding growth and greenhouse reduction measures be put in their planning proposals. These new regulations would significantly impact the costs of building vital infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and sidewalks. State law already mandates a series of procedures to minimize impacts of growth and development on the environment and residential areas under CEQA such as drafting an EIR/EIS. The regulations in SB 375 would number in the millions against business. This bill may already affect current residential and housing needs by limiting the ability for certain regions to properly build to handle its communities. Though the Senator should be commended for trying to reduce greenhouse gasses under AB 32, this legislation is not the answer. The state of California needs to find a balance between environmental concerns and economic development. SB 375 does not achieve that balance as it weakens an already soft economic climate. This is why I join the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, California Chamber of Commerce and many others and OPPOSE SB 375.
